Next week Hertfordshire Students’ Union are running Volunteering Week. This is a great opportunity for any student to get involved with the daily activities on campus, online, and in the local area.
Vicky Flynn, Volunteering and Projects Coordinator, explained: “Volunteering Week is an opportunity for students to learn more about what Herts Volunteers do and how they can get involved. There is going to be various events running from Monday 19th to Sunday 25th of October, so look out for us!”
Herts Good Deeds
Trident Media are joining in and launching the #HertsGoodDeeds initiative on Monday. We’ll be in the Forum Foyer on College Lane from 10-2pm encouraging people to get involved, and sharing your best Tweets here at TridentMedia.org on Saturday 24th.
How can students get involved?
“A whole host of things will be happening over the week!” said Flynn. “We’ve got our 5 Minute Volunteering events taking place on College Lane and deHav, showing students how volunteering can take only a few minutes! We’ll also be heading over to our Bayfordbury campus on Wednesday to help improve habitats and wildlife, and on Friday we will be hitting Bishops Rise and Woods Avenue with our Trash Mob to clean up our campus!”
All of the events are free to attend and any student is welcome to come along and get involved. Sign ups are required for the Bayfordbury Conservation project and the Trash Mob, so book your place here.
On Thursday, Flynn is hosting the Volunteering Social, which is open to all students, not just current volunteers. She said: “We’ve got lots of great volunteering opportunities coming up and we work with some fantastic organisations so come over to Hutton Hall at 12pm to learn more. We’ve also got cake!”
If I can’t come to volunteering week but still want to volunteer, what can I do?
Volunteering can be a lot easier than you think, sometimes you can even take part from the comfort of your own home! All next week, Trident Media will be kicking off Volunteering Week with #HertsGoodDeeds, an online campaign asking students to share their good deeds with us over social media. If you’ve done something or seen something amazing let us know using the hashtag #HertsGoodDeeds.
