Welcome to Trident Media!
Trident Media is Hertfordshire Students’ Union’s student media group, run by students for students, at the University of Hertfordshire.
The best part about Trident Media is that is it the closest you can get to industry experience on campus, outside your course. It’s a common assumption that to be involved in our outlets, such as radio, you must present a radio show, which is incorrect. Although most of our members get involved to do that, if you’re interested in the technical side, or want to work on sourcing new music and musicians you can work within one of our teams, and even across the outlets with TV and Radio, for example.
There’s no experience needed, as we’ll train you in every aspect of the skills you want to focus on and develop! Please join us!
Meet the team:
Matt Dowse – Chairman
Hello! My name’s Matt, and I’m the Chairman of Trident Media for the 2017/18 year! I’ve been working in radio for nine years now, and was last year’s Radio Manager for TMR. I graduated from the Film and Television Production course this year, and my role for the next twelve months is to oversee the entire output of Trident across all three outlets! I’m aiming to contribute to everything we produce, and I’m sure you’ll even see me presenting at a variety of live events, and on the Trident TV strand. You can also listen in to Trident Media Radio each Monday from 8-10 for MattDowse Live!, the radio show I’ve been presenting since 2009. Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Robert Wheatley – Head of Editorial
Hey, I’m Robert Wheatley, and I’m this year’s Head of Editorial for Trident Media’s The Trident newspaper. I’m studying Philosophy and Journalism, so my role with T.M. is super important to me not just as a writer but as a person that likes to be analytical about things when possible; giving my perspective on current news and social issues. Otherwise, I just love writing anecdotal stories, and try to offer as much insight into myself as I can, either to help people or simply be entertaining. I can’t wait to work with new contributing writers, editors and other sects of Trident Media: a team I’m loving already!
Nicola Brown – Head of TV
I’m Nicola, a second year Film and TV Production student. I joined Trident Media in my first year as I wanted to join a society that suited my interests as well as giving me an outlet to be creative alongside my studies. I love all things film and TV and as the Head of TV, I want to be able to work with likeminded people to help produce quality content which is fun and exciting, whether it’s covering the amazing events that the Hertfordshire Students’ Union host, or interviewing the latest act performing at The Forum. I hope to make Trident Media TV a recognised platform around campus, with everyone involved having fun whilst gaining valuable experience at the same time!
Jono Godlee: Head of Radio
I have just completed my first year in Film and TV Production and am passionate about Trident Radio and about music. Currently, I host my own two-hour show on Trident Media Radio (Takeover Tuesdays). I’m on air every Tuesday from 6-8pm, and try to make the show as interactive as possible. I take requests, and invite regular guests onto the show, either for live interviews or to co-host. All my shows are on MixCloud, and are uploaded as soon as my show has gone off air. I have experience in audio editing, and am constantly producing tracks and movies with a high degree of sound editing. I am passionate about music and am particularly interested in new developments on the music scene. I have a wide-ranging taste in genres and always look for quality.
Martin Ringwood – Treasurer
I am a second year Film and TV student. I have loved photography and visual art since I was very young and practiced it ever since. The same goes for financing as I have had a lot of experience in that field whilst working for a small-time business during college, this is a reason for me wanting to be the Treasurer of Trident. Trident Media is the only society that made sense to me during my time as a first year. It allowed me to practice what I love, while also learning something new – Radio has quickly become a hobby of mine as a result. During my time as a Treasurer I want to make sure that people get the same passion as I do for Media and ensure that I advertise their shows effectively whether it be a Radio podcast or a film, it should be heard.
