Students celebrated the end of January exams in style thanks to this year’s Refreshers’ Week, which brought a variety of events and offered some great activities for students to take part in.
The week kicked off on Monday 18th January with a Marvel Movie Marathon held in N002, which featured a heroic combination of Marvel movies voted for by students beforehand. This was followed by Milkshake at the Forum, featuring hit-making R&B group WSTRN, giving students plenty to bite “In2” in terms of entertainment on the first day of Refreshers.
Tuesday evening saw the Drama Society put on a masterclass in acting at Hutton Hall. On Wednesday, Active Students organised a Get into Football Day on de Havilland Campus’s 3G pitches, and Cheeky Wednesdays had its keenly anticipated Ridiculous Relaunch at the Forum, with Paul Eden, DJ Andy P and Funkz providing the tunes.
A much welcomed Super Street Food market took to the Forum foyer on Thursday, before the Forum’s rock night, Breakout!, took to the Attic for its first event of 2016. In addition a Happily Ever After Disney party struck the Forum, which saw the likes of Disney princesses, Doctor Who and Deadpool take to the floor for a night of dancing and moshing.
On Friday the Refreshers’ Fair hit the Forum foyer with many of the University’s societies, in addition to plenty of local organisations, arriving in force to spread their respective words and free goodies and deals to students. Of course, who could forget the much-anticipated return of Domino’s to campus, offering pizzas for £1 and another one free with a pizza box? Tasty.
On Friday night, as the dust settled after another successful fair on campus, attendants of the Forum’s Flirt Refreshers’ Party were treated to a performance by renowned grime rapper Chip, who went down a treat (Trident Media’s Photography Manager, Tobi Olasupo, was particularly excited by the grime artist’s arrival). Refreshers’ Week came to an end with Smirnoff Saturday the following night, which featured DC13, Billy Da Kid from Kiss FM and German EDM group Sash!
Many will agree that this year’s Refreshers’ Week was a fitting way to allow students to unwind after their exams. A variety of daytime activities, as well as some well-received high profile guest appearances brings promise to what the rest of the year has in store for students at UH.
