General Election Hustings to take place at the University of Hertfordshire

The hustings are free to attend and will be hosted by the Hertfordshire Student Union and the University of Hertfordshire itself on 3rd December at 6pm in the Forum on the College Lane Campus. It will be held MPs, who are running for election in the local area of Welwyn Hatfield.

University of Hertfordshire Vice Chancellor and Chairman for the Hustings, Professor Quintin McKellar CBE has said: ““This is a fantastic opportunity for the local community to get involved and put their questions to the candidates; finding out what they have to say on the issues that matter most to them.”

There will be four candidates from four parties, who will take part in the hustings. The candidates are; Oliver Sayers (Green Party), Rosie Newbigging (Labour), Paul Zukowskyj (Liberal Democrats) and Grant Shapps (Conservative).

President of the Hertfordshire Student Union, Rida Shafqat commented on the importance of the event, and has said the general election is “One of the most important elections in a generation and we’re pleased to be able to welcome the perspective candidates to the University. I’d like to encourage students and staff to take this opportunity and contribute to the political process.”
